A smart meter upgrade is free of charge - this means there is no additional cost to you for having a smart meter installed.
If you have a first generation smart meter (SMETS1), your meter will not be exchanged for a second generation meter (SMETS2). Your SMETS1 meter will receive a wireless upgrade which will enable it to perform as a SMETS2 meter. This is an industry wide process and we are unable to determine when this type of upgrade will take place.
